In a recent U.S. study, lice have proven to be increasingly resistant to the chemical Permethrin, used in many over-the-counter lice treatments. There are newer, more effective chemical treatments available. The anti-parasite drug Ivermectin is available in pill or lotion, but it requires a prescription. Several other insecticide lotions stronger than Permethrin are also available. But they’re more expensive and also need a prescription. Some have dangerous side effects.
The trouble with these treatments (aside from the fact that you’re pouring chemicals on your child’s head) is that super lice will eventually become resistant to these, too. Left with few choices, some parents resort to home treatments like mayonnaise or Vaseline which are ineffective. Other ineffective treatments are baby oil, garlic, olive oil, salt, and tea tree oil. Some even resort to shaving their child’s head. Even this can be ineffective, because a child’s hair grows quickly and lice can live on hair as short as 2mm.
The safest and most effective way to rid your child of lice is without chemicals. HBI Lice Removal Service is trained and certified in The Shepherd Method of head lice removal. Each hair is individually examined and all lice and nits are manually removed. Each lice treatment includes a recheck to make sure the lice are gone for good.
